Drawing with Thread
The “Remnants” are utilitarian textiles - humble dishcloths, bedlinens, or table cloths - starched into paper-like material, freezing their tattered history. In “Drawing with Thead” cloths, collected and gifted, begin the process of recreating their stories with hand stitched marks. Through embroidery, I reflect on why they were saved rather than discarded to draw ou the memories and identity of the users. The focus on the body alludes to the role and condition of women, the ‘useful’ function as a parent or a membero of the community, which like cloths, fray and fragment over time. [2020 to present]
